When first running PAWS
You will be shown a dialog indicating that PAWS has not been run on your computer before.
- Click on the Create New Language button.
- You will be asked to save the newly created PAWS answer file in a directory. We suggest putting it in your Documents directory under a (new) folder called “My PAWS”. Type the name of the answer file you want to use in the “File name” box and press the Save button.
- This brings up the Language Properties page. Fill in each field for your language. When you are done, click on the Next button.
- This brings up the Answer and Result File Information page. Check the kinds of output results you want (what shows depends on which items are checked). Change the location of any output files if needed. Click on the Next button.
- This takes you to the main Contents page. You are set to go now.
The next time you start PAWS from the desktop icon, it will take you to the page you were last on (normally the Contents page).
If you are using PAWS to produce a grammar write-up, you may want to work your way through the first two or three sections and then take a look at the writer output. This should help you to see “the big picture” of how PAWS works. To produce the writer output, click on the Generate Files icon.
